At the beginning of this year, my health insurance changed and therefore so did the specialty mail order pharmacy that I use to get my MS meds.
6 months later, I'm still not impressed.
Before I even received my first shipment, there was confusion. They called to confirm that they would be shipping me an MS med that is different than the one I take. I told them that no, I take Copaxone. After a little arguing with me, they discovered that they have another patient with the same name as me who is on the other MS med. The said they forgot to double check the birthdate. Um...okay. Seems like a pharmacy would have safeguards about such things, but okay.
Since then, I have received two messages from two different people every single time they need to call me, they have returned calls to me when the message to them was from my doctor, and they have attemped to schedule a shipment 6 days after the previous one (should be sent about every 30 days).
On Monday I received a sharps container that I never requested via UPS. I didn't think much of it (except that it was wasteful, as I did not need it) until they called yesterday to schedule my next shipment. They asked if I had received my sharps container, and I said "Yes, but I don't know why." They said "We have a note here that you left a voicemail requesting one." I said that I had not, and there was a long pause. I then said "When I first switched to this pharmacy, I was nearly sent the wrong medication because you have another patient with the same name. Maybe she requested a sharps container." The cheerful response? "Ohhhh. That's probably what happened." Grr.

funny story on my doc...
when my daughter was first born, i made an appt. with a new family doc. (figured we'd all start going to the same guy)
so i sat down on the table holding my duaghter (who had just previously been weighed and measured by the nurses)and the doc comes up and starts looking in my ears with the scope thingy... then he realized.. i wasnt the patient.
i still go to him! lol.
God Bless

What a pain! Two patients with the same name and the same medical condition? Is there anywhere else you can switch to?
Oh. Dear. Lord.
I hope they get on the ball soon.
OTM - Funny story. At least it wasn't a pediatrician's office, ha!
Jess - That is the only specialty pharmacy my insurance will accept. The meds are over $1,000 per month, so I'll just stick with the place that the insurance tells me to go. :-)
Liz - If they don't get on the ball soon, I may have to ask the other patient to change her name. Heh.
