Ugh. This is something I never thought I'd post about.
I don't know how long American Idol has been on. Years, right? I never watched a moment of it until this season.
Matt is from the city that is right next to my city. The two cities are both pretty small, so he may as well be from the same city.
When the season first started, boss #1 commented that he had seen Matt play piano at a local bar. Okay, whatever.
Boss #2 said "There's this show called American Idol, and apparently there's someone from Kalamazoo on there..." Obviously he was as familiar with the show as I was.
Several weeks ago, I decided to check the show out. The first week, I was all "This show's kind of silly, but hey, there's a local guy on there."
The next couple weeks I began to develop preferences and opinions. I was rooting for Matt, because you have root for the local boy, right? Last week I decided that I'm not really a fan of Matt's singing, though it still would be cool if the local guy won. I found that I actually preferred one of the other contestants.
Last night I was practically standing up and dancing in place like Paula while Danny sang. He seems a little goofy, but that guy can sing. I hope he wins. I didn't vote, though. I refuse to get that involved. Hubby is teasing me for watching it, but he stops what he's doing to check out when the contestants are singing. Go figure. He agreed that Danny was the best last night.
I hope Michigan doesn't deport people. I feel a little unpatriotic to Southwest Michigan right now.

I'm from NC and could never get into Anoop. Don't feel bad, sometimes the local boy just sucks. :)
I'm not a big fan of Matt either. I agree that Danny was the best last night but I still don't like him. I never think he does anything special with his songs (last night excepted) even though he has an excellent voice. And all that talk about his dead wife earlier in the season really put me off. I would love to see an Allison-Adam finale, but I don't think that's going to happen.
JB - He's not THAT bad...He's just not THAT good. He's better than I would be, though. Ha.
Jess - I started watching later in the season, so I never heard the talk about his wife. You are second blogger I have seen complain about it, though. Not knowing exactly what was said, I have to say that losing a spouse would certainly be a traumatic experience, especially so young, and I can imagine that anyone who went through it would want to talk about it, and certainly a person would want to do things in tribute to their spouse.
Oh, and I think Allison has a great voice. I don't see what all the fuss is about Adam, though. Kris is just kind of there. I don't have anything to say about him.
I got sucked into American Idol only once (towards the end of the first season). I guess I can see the logic in watching because of a local participant, although that didn't get me to watch The Bachelor when there was a local girl on. (Wait. Was it The Bachelor? Oh, whatever. See how important reality TV is to me?) ;-)
I've only ever seen the finale of the first season. I was not impressed, local people or no.
I stopped watching regularly after Carrie Underwood won. There's almost always someone with a Tulsa connection in the top 12, but I just got tired of it all.
I must ashamedly admit to being addicted to the show and I really don't know why. I'm not emotionally invested in any of them. I don't place votes and I really don't care who wins, I just want to KNOW who wins...I could find that out by simply watching the last show, right? But, I'm sucked in. LOL.
I'm ashamed to admit that I never miss American Idol. I'm with Jess....I would love a final with Allison and Adam.
I am over Danny and wish he would go home.
Pssh. It's American Idol. Anyone you vote for, or want to win, makes you patriotic! Who cares if he isn't from your area?
Also, thanks so much! I got the package you sent.
HAHAHA I love that you posted about this!!
my fav in Adam:)
Hey! I didn't know you were from MI. J's family is from the greater Grand Rapids area. Your great lake is so much greater than ours!
Too funny! We've watched all but one season (I don't know why, but we completely skipped season three), and it has only been fueled on by having THREE people from our city (Birmingham, Al) make it to the top two, and one win. So I totally get the hometown loyalty thing!! It really is a fun show, although it can also get annoying at times.
