First off, this is important stuff - My son has a chenille blanket that has developed a small hole/run. I haven't pointed it out to him because he would probably start playing with it and it would get worse. But folks, this is the blanky. He didn't have a favorite blanket until about a month ago, and suddenly this is his favorite in a major sort of way. It goes to daycare every morning with him for naptime, and then comes home again for bedtime. Hubby has left it at school three times when he picks him up, and three times he has returned to retrieve it (we only live a few blocks away. I think I would only have to go back once before I remembered, but that's just me...) Anyway, we used to have a couple chenille type throw pillows, and the same thing happened, and once it happened, it just got worse, and that was the end of the pillows. I don't want the blanky to meet the same fate, because he adores this blanket. I can't find any info online about repairing chenille, which concerns me into thinking chenille can't be repaired...Because, let's face it...Most things can be found on the internet. Please help. I don't know if I have any mending-handy readers...If I do, please help!
We got another RSVP yesterday...or was it today? The mom of one of my son's friends, who we are friendly with outside of daycare also, told hubby yesterday afternoon that her son would be there, but that she would be giving us an "official RSVP soon". Unnecessary, but I thought maybe she felt it wasn't official unless it was by phone or in writing...I saw her this morning, and she told me that her son would be there. I told her I had heard that yesterday. She then said "This is my official RSVP." Apparently giving the RSVP to Dad wasn't official. Just Mom. Apparently I am the executive director in charge of the birthday party. Awesome. :)

Moms are definitely the CEO of the home that's for sure!
Repairing Chenille? Yikes....I have a chenille blanket and it is dry clean only and I can't imagine repairing it...I would guess you could just try to patch the hole with some matching thread or yarn....but it's most definitely a delicate fabric. Good Luck with it, maybe check out Martha Stewart's website or something like that, I bet Martha knows! lol
I'm not even sure what chenille is but if that happened to my body pillow I'd be in a world of hurt.
We still have received no additional RSVP's for our party.
If you can't find a way to weave the hole back in, you could try machine stitching the perimeter of the hole (with or without a patch) to keep it from getting worse.
That might be the kind of ghetto-ass solution that only a childless single suggests, but there are my 2 cents.
Kissashark - Nothing on Martha's site. Sigh.
Blitz - Hope you get more RSVPs soon.
l sass - I'm not sure the stitching would help...The patch idea was my last ditch idea, too...I figured I'd get some cute fabric with trucks or something on it, and put a patch on both sides...Then his favorite soft blanky would also be a truck blanky...I'm hoping someone gives me another solution, though...
I can't believe nothing on Martha's site....huh. Well I think I might just have to submit a comment to Martha just to see what the answer is!
You might try one of those iron on patches, sort of glues itself to the material and might hold it together. If it's small enough, he might not notice the patch. Still, might work.
just an idea, but is it possible to find an exact blanket like the one your son loves, to switch it with?
A little girl I used to look after had a teddy that was her security object. Her parents were afraid of it getting lost and the little girl being inconsolable, so they bought another identical one to have on hand 'just in case'. That other bear did come in handy one day too, and the little girl never knew the difference.
I would think if you don't mind too much how it looks, that it ought to be possible to at least contain the damage. And really, comfort blankies never LOOK good for long, anyway, right?
I never had an attachment to anything in particular, but my sister was obsessed with a doll-sized pillow my grandmother made for us. She called it her "Bee," dressed it in doll clothes and carried it with her everywhere. I was afraid she was going to insist on taking it to first grade with her, but one night she managed to somehow push it up against the night light she insisted on having next to her bed and it caught on fire. Fortunately, the smell woke me up before the house went up in flames (nobody else even stirred--Young Liz Saves the Family!), but the poor "Bee" was toast. I swear I had nothing to do with it!
Kissashark - Let me know if you find something out!
Kathi - That's a thought...maybe
Kim - I doubt it. It was a gift before he was born. So, it's about 3 and a half years old...I'll keep an eye out for it, though
Liz - Good point about not looking good for long. My comfort doll had no hair, because I used to carry her around by her hair. Some sort of patch will probably work out just fine!
Oh, and Liz - You were always jealous of Bee, weren't you? ;)
